Licensing

Licenses in plain words

Buy the license for where the type will be used. Each license covers one company or person and never expires.

Sample text. These terms are a starting point, not legal advice. Replace them with your own license agreement before you sell, and have it checked for the places you sell to.

Terms that apply to every license

  • The license is for the person or company named on the receipt. It does not expire.
  • You may not sell, share or give away the font files themselves, or upload them where others can download them.
  • You may change the files for your own use (for example to subset them for a website), but the changed files stay under the same license.
  • Logos, products and printed matter you make with the fonts are yours, and stay yours if the license ends.
  • Updates to the families you licensed are free.

Desktop

Install the fonts on up to five computers in one company. Use them for anything you make on those computers: print, packaging, logos, signs, still images, video and documents, including PDFs you share. For more computers, ask for a price.

Web

Put the WOFF2 files on your own server or CDN and use them with @font-face on one domain and its subdomains, up to 250,000 page views a month. Staging and preview sites are included. Self-hosting only; the files may not be served to other people’s sites.

App

Embed the fonts in one app title, on as many platforms as you publish it, up to 50,000 installs. The fonts must be compiled into the app so that users cannot extract them easily. Updates to the same title are covered.

Questions

Do I need a web license if I only use the font in images on my website?

No. Text set in an image, a PDF or a video is covered by the desktop license. The web license is for the font files themselves on a web server.

Our agency sets the type for a client. Who buys the license?

The client, in their own name. You can install their fonts while you work on their project.

Can I upgrade later?

Yes. Write to us and pay the difference between the license you have and the one you need.

What happens if we go over the page view limit?

Nothing breaks. When your site stays above the limit for three months, buy the next step up; write to us for a price.
