Tallis Grotesk was commissioned for station signs, where one word has to fit a fixed panel and another must still read from forty meters away. The width axis runs from condensed to normal without changing the weight, so a long station name can narrow while the short ones stay open.

About Tallis Grotesk

Signs are a hard test for type: fixed panels, long names, viewing from an angle and at speed. Tallis Grotesk answers with a width axis from 75 to 100. Drag the Width slider in the tester to watch a line narrow without getting lighter.
The shapes are plain on purpose. Apertures are open, the 1 and l and I are told apart, and the figures are tabular by default in the app files so departure times line up.
This site uses Tallis for its own headings. The Regular package includes one style for desktop or web; the family adds six weights and the variable file with both axes.
